Clinical Studies on Cefotetan (YM 09330) in Surgical Infections

Abstract
|
|
|
Total 20 cases of surgical infection have been studied for an evaluation of clinical effects with a new antibiotic agent, Cefotetan (YM 09330), at the Department of General Surgery, College of Medicine, Chung Ang University, Seoul, Korea from December 1984 to September 1985.
The results were as follows:
1) Cefotetan was administered in dose of 2gm./day intravenously or intramuscularly in 2 divided doses.
2) Duration of Cefotetan treatment varied from 5 to 10 days and average duration was b. 1 days.
3) Cefotetan sensitivity ratio of the Gram positive organisms was 95.2%and the Gram negative organisms was 100%, and half of the Enterococcus was resistant.
4) 18(92. 8%) of total 20 cases have shown satisfactory clinical effects after administration of Cefotetan; The effective rates were 100% in 8 cases of perforative appendicitis, 90% in 10 cases of acute suppurative biliary diseases, and 50% in 2 cases of intraabdominal abscess.
5) There were no drug related abnormal findings in hematology, blood chemistry, and urinalysis.
6) Any side effects were not noted during or after Cefotetan treatment.
